Capture / Privacy
Privacy, in plain words.
Your captures are yours. Here’s how they’re handled.
Privacy Policy · Last updated
The short version.
Your content stays on your device unless you choose to transfer or export it. Capture uses on-device processing and no developer or third-party data collection.
1. About this policy
Capture is an iPhone app made by Dimitri Yellachich for typed notes, audio, photos and scanned documents. This policy explains how Capture handles your information and what happens when you choose an optional integration or contact support.
2. Your captures stay local
Capture stores your notes, recordings, photos, scanned documents, transcriptions and recognised text locally on your device. It does not automatically upload that content to a developer server.
The developer does not collect, access, sell or share your captures. Capture contains no advertising trackers or third-party analytics and does not send your content to third-party data collection services.
Content can leave your device when you explicitly choose a transfer or integration described below. Device backups are also governed by your Apple device and account settings.
3. On-device processing
Capture uses Apple’s on-device capabilities for audio transcription and optical character recognition (OCR). These features process your audio or images on your device, rather than sending your content to the developer or a third-party AI service for processing.
4. Permissions you control
Capture may request permissions needed for features you choose to use:
- Microphone: to record audio.
- Camera: to take photos and scan documents.
- Photos: to access photos you choose to import.
- Local network: to connect to Capture Companion on your local Wi-Fi.
- Reminders: to send content to Apple Reminders at your direction.
You can review or revoke access in iOS Settings. Declining a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
5. Optional transfers and integrations
Capture Companion. If you choose to use Capture Companion, content is transferred over your local Wi-Fi network through an authenticated connection. This is a transfer to the receiving device you connect to, not a developer-operated cloud collection service.
Apple Reminders. If you choose to send content to Apple Reminders, that content becomes part of your reminders. Its storage and any syncing are governed by your Apple account and Reminders settings.
Obsidian via iCloud. If you choose the Obsidian integration, content is written to the Obsidian vault you select in iCloud. iCloud may sync it to your other devices according to your account settings. That content is then subject to the behaviour and settings of iCloud and your Obsidian setup.
These integrations are optional and user-directed. They do not give the developer access to your content. The destinations you choose have their own privacy practices.
6. Your control and copies
You control which captures you create and which content you transfer or export. The developer has no server-side copy of your captures to retrieve or delete on your behalf.
Manage any transferred or exported copies in the receiving device, app or service. Removing a local copy does not automatically remove copies in Capture Companion, Reminders, an Obsidian vault or a device backup. Backup retention and deletion depend on the relevant device or service settings.
7. When you contact support
If you email dimitri@yellachich.com.au, you voluntarily share your email address and anything you include in the message. This information is used to respond to your request and investigate the issue you describe; it is separate from the app’s operation.
Email is handled by the email services used to send and receive it. Please do not include sensitive captures, recordings or documents unless they are necessary to explain the issue. You can use the same address to ask about a support conversation or request its deletion.
8. This support website
The website’s own code uses no cookies, trackers, analytics, external fonts or third-party scripts. It does not have an account system or a contact form; email links open your email app.
A website hosting provider may process technical request information, such as an IP address, to deliver and protect the site. This is separate from Capture, which does not upload your captures to this website.
9. Updates and contact
If Capture’s features or data handling change, this policy will be updated and the date at the top will change.
For questions about this policy, contact Dimitri Yellachich at dimitri@yellachich.com.au.
